Course Length:  The full course is two weeks; however, students may attend by the day or week.

Description:  This course is designed to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the explosives detection canine team.

During the first week the AU CDTC staff will assess your training proficiency level and provide you a road map to strengthen your performance as an explosives detection canine team.  We will identify training deficiencies, provide recommended corrective actions and provide proficiency training that will increase your overall success as a team.  If you are having a canine detection problem, we will establish objectives to assist you in correcting this deficiency.  If you are already a good team, we will work with you to strengthen your capability.

During the second week, our focus will shift to operations.  You will be involved in scenario driven exercises designed to make you a stronger and smarter explosives detection canine handler.  You will gain experience with various search patterns, booby-traps, large-quantity explosives and handling bomb threats.  We will also provide you an opportunity to expose your canine partner to a new explosive odor, given we have an explosive odor that your canine has never learned.  Additionally, we will provide instruction to strengthen your overall knowledge of canine detection and optimizing canine performance.

Class Size:  Will be kept low to ensure a good instructor to student ratio and enhance the learning environment.  A small portion of the class may attend without dogs for observational purposes.  However, a majority of the attendees will attend with their canine partner.

Schedule:Classes will be scheduled to meet training objectives and are subject to change.  Please check back frequently as we are constantly working to provide the best class possible and will update the schedule as we are able to provide the training.  If you are attending training on a daily basis for a specific class, identify this to us so we can notify you should something change on that day.

Application:  Students may apply by filling-out the Advanced Explosives Detection Canine Team Course Application.  Preference will be given to handlers attending with their canine partner for the entire two weeks.  The following items are all needed to apply for this course.
